QuickTips Summer Series #1: Air Quality1 min read

I know I’m not alone here but I absolutely LOVE summer! The one thing that I’m not fond of when it comes to the hot, humid and hazy days is the impact that this weather has on air quality. If you live in a large urban area then you certainly know and have seen the impacts of smog. Smog not only makes us uncomfortable, it can pose serious health risks for those with heart or respiratory issues as well as children and the elderly.
If you are not doing so on a regular basis, be sure to check your local air quality health index for a better understanding of how to protect yourself and your loved ones.
The reality of the situation is that with continued growth, escalating traffic and urban development, the problem is certainly not going to get better. But here’s the interesting part: smog may be considered a global issue, but it’s also an intensely local issue. What we mean by that is this: the air quality in your local neighbourhood is directly related to the activities of you and your neighbours. Considering that smog is mostly created through the combustion of fossil fuels, simply driving less is one easy way to improve YOUR air quality.
Check out this week’s video – the first in our QuickTips Summer Series – for a better understanding of what you can do around the home to prevent contributing to the issue while keeping comfortable on those hot muggy days! As always, we’d love your comments.
