Clean air, clean renos!2 min read

We are in the midst of a kitchen renovation (long overdue – I think the wallpaper is older than I am) and this week’s comfort episode focuses on maintaining good indoor air quality during a project like this one. We went into this fully aware that it was going to be disruptive and messy but our goal was to work with our contractors to minimize mess, contain the dust kicked up during the demolition and protect the air quality in occupied areas of the home during the job.
If you’ve done any sort of home renovation project (big or small) then you know just how much of an impact it has on the air that your breathe. Not only are you dealing with the mess created from the demolition process when all of that dust and debris gets airborne, you also have to worry about possible contaminants that can seriously impact the health and well being of your family. Because our home was built in the 60’s (the good old days of lead paint and asbestos) we had the home inspected prior to bringing our contractors in. Luckily we didn’t have to worry about lead or asbestos contamination but that didn’t mean that we were in the clear.
Check out this week’s video for a better understanding of some of the things that you can do to minimize the negative impact that this process has on indoor air quality. And as always, make sure that you take the necessary steps before, during and after to ensure that you keep your family healthy and comfortable throughout any home improvement project.
Have any other tips? Please feel free to share any other stories that you have related to maintaining a clean and comfortable home during any renovation. We’d love to hear from you.!
