Well we’re not quite out of the woods yet kids….a few more months of these cool temperatures and unpredictable weather are certainly in the cards. The furnace is still on, not much fresh air flowing through the home and…..excuse me while I apply some more lip balm. You too?
Not surprising, each winter most of us tend to suffer from dry skin and chapped lips among other effects caused by dry winter air both outside and inside of our homes. Now there’s not much that can be done about the environment outside of the home, but you certainly can control how comfortable you are inside the home. And the key to it all…..your humidifier.
Properly managing the humidity levels in the home can go along way not only when it comes to comfort but more importantly when it comes to the health you and your family.
Among the obvious and common signs of dry air such as that itchy, dry skin, there are other more serious side effects that you may not be aware of. Here are just a few:

  • sore throat
  • sinus headaches
  • itchy eyes
  • bronchial/asthma issues
  • severe issues for those who suffer from sleep apnea

The list goes but the secret is about finding that perfect balance. If you overcompensate and humidity levels in the home are too high, you can be dealing with this set of issues:

  • mold
  • bacteria
  • viruses
  • condensation
  • structural damage
  • content damage (wood products throughout the home)

Don’t be too concerned, we’re here to help. Check out this week’s video where we’re joined by Doug Hart, Product Specialist from Reliance Home Comfort who’s here to set us straight and tell us what we need to know about finding that perfect humidity sweet spot.
As always, we’d love have your thoughts so feel free to leave us some comments below.
