Renovate responsibly – and save1 min read

We started our kitchen renovation project with one objective in mind – we wanted to turn the main floor of our home into a modern open concept design. As is the case in most homes, the kitchen is one of the main hubs of activity and our kitchen was certainly no exception. It goes without saying that whenever we entertain, the kitchen is where most people tend to congregate. Kitchen party anyone? By removing a wall, installing an island and freeing up more space, we can get some of those people out of the kitchen and into the living and dining room of the home making for a more comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
Our project is moving along quite well, certainly not at a blistering pace, and this has allowed us to take advantage of some real opportunities to save. Whether it’s taking the time to do price comparisons on materials, securing those handy friends and family members (what a blessing!) or simply taking a DIY approach whenever possible – we’ve maximized our resources and really put a lot of thought into how we can stretch our renovation budget as far as possible. As many of you know, an inexpensive renovation project is almost unheard of but a well planned and well paced project will certainly give you many opportunities to save a bundle.
Check out this week’s video to learn how you can take some simple steps to stretch your renovation dollar. Any other tips? What have you done to maximize your budget? As always, we’d love to hear from you!
