Can you be a greener parent?1 min read

Reading Time: < 1 minute

This week’s Green Living Episode touches on what is truly most important to me:  family. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews then you understand the joy, happiness and new perspectives that they bring to your lives each day. Which begs the question…what steps are you taking to give back and what role are you playing to ensure that they develop into the happiest, healthiest and most responsible people they can be? Take your time, think about it….no pressure!
Regardless, any parent will tell you, the responsibility that you have undertaken is one that should not be taken lightly – a very good friend once told me “raising a child is so much more than what we know it to be….the real challenge lies in helping them be the people we want them to be”. It sounded like a pretty intimidating statement when I first heard it but the more I thought about it, the more I appreciated the influence I could have when it came to helping my child be their absolute best.
This brings us to this week’s video – Green Parenting. Check it out for a better understanding of how easy and enjoyable the experience can be. As always, we’d love to hear from you. How are you helping your kids lead greener and healthier lives? Let us know.

There are some great tips in this video. Parents who are concerned about air quality and obesity, two issues you touch on here, must also consider reducing use of the family car. Cutting down on driving as a family by eliminating unnecessary trips and replacing car trips when possible with walking, biking, or taking transit is an essential step every parent must take if he or she wants to be a greener parent.

You are absolutely right Anne - teaching children the benefits of greener means of transportation has so many benefits both from a health and environmental perspective (plus we parents will save some $ along the way) - thanks so much for sharing!
