Using a House Cleaning Schedule to Prep Your House for Spring

Springtime is here, and you know what that means! Time to get cleaning. However, this year, why not take a more strategic approach to tackling the winter’s grime, by using a house cleaning schedule? Using a schedule will help you clean more efficiently. There will be less time wandering from room to room and more time kicking clutter to the curb.

A house cleaning schedule typically divides the tasks by room. This not only keeps cleaning tasks focused, it allows you to spread things out over a few days. Because nobody wants to spend an entire spring day cleaning the house, right? So grab a notebook and create columns to represent each room, and then write down all of the chores required for that room. The order in which you clean will depend on the size and type of house that you have. Your house cleaning schedule may vary, but all rooms will need to be included:  Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas (this includes your living room, dining room and foyer) should all be part of your cleaning schedule. Here are just a few of the tasks that you can find on a good cleaning schedule:

  1. Bedroom cleaning will include dusting the furniture and decor, changing all bed linens, cleaning windows, and lastly, cleaning the floor.
  2. In the bathroom, you will also dust the light fixtures and decorations, clean counters, sinks, toilet, tub and cabinet fronts. Don’t forget to clean mirrors, empty the trash and clean the floor.
  3. Your kitchen will require dusting the vents and exhaust fans. Clean all counter tops, appliances, and cabinet fronts, too. Move appliances if necessary to do a deep clean behind your stove, fridge and dishwasher if possible.
  4. Living room will require dusting of furniture, wall hangings and decorations. Depending on the type of floor you have, you may consider steam cleaning or carpet cleaning as well.
  5. Don’t forget your furnace filter! This is the perfect time to install a new one.

It’s not just about the dirt you can see

In addition to all of the mopping and scrubbing, scheduling a maintenance appointment for your HVAC unit is also an important part of preparing for the warmer weather. This maintenance appointment will ensure that your air conditioner is in good working order before the hot weather gets here, while also confirming the good health of your furnace.
